6 Tips to boost the Immune System

Boosting the immune system is essential to avoid numerous diseases, especially in the cold season or when one is under a lot of stress. The immune or immune system is the body's natural defense against infections. Therefore, if it is weakened, it is easier to fall ill.

The Immune System defends us from these germs or toxic substances through a certain mechanism made up of different steps, which is what is called “immune response.” And within this immune response, leukocytes or white blood cells play a fundamental role. This is what we commonly call “the defenses”. Hence, when leukocytes are low, we hear the expression “having low defenses.”

Leukocytes are mainly of two different types, and they are organized among themselves to, on the one hand, locate or detect possible dangers and then destroy them to prevent them from accessing the body and causing diseases, infections or any other type of reaction. Leukocytes are made and stored in many different parts of the body, such as the spleen or marrow, and these organs are called “lymphoid organs.”

As we said, there are two main types of leukocytes: lymphocytes, which are cells that will allow our body to remember and recognize invaders from the past to later help the body destroy them; and phagocytes, which are cells that kill these harmful organisms.

6 Tips to boost the Immune System.

  • The immune system depends approximately 75% on factors related to quality of life. So, it is very important that you try to adopt healthy habits such as the following.

1. Increase zinc consumption.

  • Zinc is one of the most important nutrients for a strong immune system.
  • Zinc is a potent supporter of several different immune functions, as it helps regulate the production of cells in this defense system. It is essential for the formation of DNA and, in fact, plays an important role in the production of white blood cells.
  • Foods rich in Zinc: Pork, Dark chocolate, Brown rice, Eggs, Crab, Beef, Pumpkin seeds.

2. Consume the necessary calories.

5. Practice regular physical exercise.

  • Other vitamins: group B vitamins are especially important.
